この度、横浜を舞台にしたドキュメンタリー映画「The Sprit of Yokohama（ザ スピリット オブ ヨコハマ）」が5月公開されます。

その映像の中に、私たち「YOUR Social Project 」のインタビューと活動内容が紹介されることとなりました！

この映画は横浜・元町のレジェンド、横浜市中区元町生まれ、現在97歳の杉島和三郎さんの語りを中心に、戦前と戦後の横浜について、そして横浜を中心に活動している、地域の魅力づくりや課題解決に取り組む人々を描いている作品です。

杉島さんは、三菱重工横浜造船所で原動機の開発設計に従事、現在はロータリークラブなどで社会活動に関わるほか、横浜大空襲の語り部もつとめていらっしゃる方です。

監督は1980（昭和55）年公開「狂い咲きサンダーロード」から映画に携わり、以降、プロデューサーとして映画や番組制作に関わってきた古澤敏文さん。アドバイザーには有名作品として『あぶない刑事』の脚本を担当された、柏原寛司さん（1949 年東京日本橋生まれ。脚本家・映画監督　日本シナリオ作家協会理事、日本映画大学理事。）が加わり、製作が進みました。

監督のメッセージ：

横浜は日本で最も市民活動が活発な地域です。年間を通じて、様々な催しや環境保全活動、文化活動が行われています。さらに、これらを支援するための専門的な会合やシンポジウムも市民自らの手で開催されています。これは日本において非常に特異なことです。

しかし、一般市民がそれらの活動の背景や詳細を把握する機会は少なく、そのために有意義な活動であっても周知されず、最近は人材が集まらないケースも見受けられます。そこで、それら社会活動を行っている団体を紹介する本映画を制作し、その上映会などを通じて交流を促し、状況の改善や活動を活発化させることに寄与したいと考えました。

この映画『The Spirit of Yokohama』に紹介される市民活動の一つとして、私たち「YOUR Social Project 」を取り上げていただきました！

これまでの私たちの主な活動として、伊東英明監督の「サイレント・フォールアウト～乳歯が語る大陸汚染～」上映会開催、「市民のための山下ふ頭シンポジウム」とジャズ喫茶ちぐさの保存会(MCY)サポート等について紹介しております。

この映画では、それ以外に、素晴らしい活動をしている方々が沢山登場され、山下ふ頭・みなとみらい・山手・石川町・関内周辺など街の風景も見ることができます。

そして、杉島さんの語りによって横浜の戦前と戦後の街の移り変わりも知ることができます。

ちなみに、杉島さんの奥様は、YSPの椎名の母校の中高の卒業生で大先輩というのを偶然知りました。そういった地域のつながりが自然に沢山集まっているのもこの映画の魅力です。

We are excited to announce that the documentary film The Spirit of Yokohama, set in the city of Yokohama, will be released this May.

We are honored that an interview with us—YOUR Social Project—as well as highlights of our activities, will be featured in the film!

This documentary centers around Wasaburō Sugishima, a legendary figure from Motomachi in Yokohama's Naka Ward, who is now 97 years old. Through his storytelling, the film explores life in Yokohama before and after World War II, while also spotlighting individuals and groups working to enhance the local community and address regional issues.

Mr. Sugishima previously worked in the development and design of engines at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries’ Yokohama Shipyard. Today, he is active in social initiatives through organizations such as the Rotary Club and serves as a storyteller sharing his experiences of the Yokohama air raids.

The film is directed by Toshifumi Furusawa, who has been involved in filmmaking since the release of Crazy Thunder Road in 1980. The production is further enriched by the guidance of screenwriter and film director Kanji Kashiwabara—best known for works like Abunai Deka. Mr. Kashiwabara, born in 1949 in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, currently serves as a board member of both the Writers Guild of Japan and Japan Institute of the Moving Image.

Message from the Director:

"Yokohama is one of the most active regions in Japan for civic engagement. Throughout the year, various events, environmental efforts, and cultural activities take place. What’s more, citizens themselves organize specialized meetings and symposiums to support these initiatives—something quite rare in Japan.

However, the general public often lacks opportunities to learn about the background and details of these activities. As a result, even meaningful initiatives sometimes go unnoticed, and recently, some groups have struggled to attract new members. That’s why I decided to create this documentary—to introduce these community-driven efforts and encourage interaction through screenings and related events. I hope it will help raise awareness and energize local activities."

We are honored that YOUR Social Project was selected as one of the civic initiatives featured in The Spirit of Yokohama!

You’ll also get to see many other inspiring community initiatives, as well as scenes from neighborhoods like Yamashita Pier, Minato Mirai, Yamate, Ishikawacho, and Kannai.

Through Mr. Sugishima’s storytelling, the film also offers insight into how Yokohama has changed before and after World War II.

Interestingly, we recently discovered that Mr. Sugishima’s wife is an alumna of the same junior and senior high school that Shiina from YOUR Social Project attended—a lovely coincidence! This kind of natural, local connection is another charm of the film.
